so so much so much

new Shotgun & Jaybird LP + Shotgun & Jaybird tour + Final Fantasy + Jon-Rae and the River + Paddy O's has somehow become the indie rock capital of the maritimes

okay so a lot has happened since the last time i was on this here weblog. i live here again and there is a lot to catch up on.

firstly, Shotgun & Jaybird have made a new record and it has 5 more songs than their last release did. it's called "Trying to Get Somewhere". if you live in Sackville, you can buy this record at Struts Gallery, Rob Lyon Graphics, or from band members. if you don't live in Sackville, the best place to go is to the Sappy Records website, but you can also get it in digital format at Zunior online.

secondly, they are preparing to embark on a fall tour opening for and being the backing band of and having as a member of their band Julie Doiron. don't worry friends, it is a family tree that i will never understand either, though it would help if you could create one.

thirdly, newly crowned Polaris Prize Winner Final Fantasy is performing at George's Roadhouse on friday, November, 17. to make matters somewhat simpler, Julie Doiron will be performing a solo set. this will be a sitting down show because nobody wants to play video games while other people are standing up. tickets are at Ducky's and will be moving quickly.

fourthly, Jon-Rae and the River are definitely not going to make you sit down when they arrive at George's Roadhouse on the 20th of October. they have a new album and are currently to be found on the cover of Exclaim! magazine.

fifthly, Paddy O's has become the indie rock capital of the maritimes officially. check it out. this will include Henri Faberge and the Adorables, The Bicycles, and dd/mm/yyyy.

sixthly, i need to go dust off my knee high boots as a result.

more to come.

start of the summer

alright, so i know i won't be living in sackville for the summer, but i can still post things that i learn on the internet.

Peter Mansbridge and the CBC's made a record, some songs of which can be heard on their myspace website. it's called Love in the Country Songs, and is worthy of being purchased. also, Henry will be doing a tour of Ontario this summer, so look for those dates, also at his myspace page.

Shotgun & Jaybird are currently finishing up their x-Canada tour. the remainder of their dates can be seen here.

finally, something of a gala event will be held in Sackville in august. the folks at Sappy Records will be holding a music festival on the weekend of the 4,5,6 of august, with artists such as Snailhouse, Rock Plaza Central, Julie Doiron, Shotgun & Jaybird, and, which i am most looking forward to, a performance by Eric's Trip. more bands will be added so keep checking back, or just go directly to the Sappy website.

that is all for the time being, this will be updated as more news becomes available.

Al Tuck w/ Port City Adam Mowery sat. apr. 8

legendary "singer/songwriter" (so they tell me) Al Tuck of Prince Edward Island will be making a stop here in Sackville for reasons not relating to his van breaking down. this saturday he will be playing a real show with the help of Adam Mowery of St. John and formerly of the Port City All-Stars. you know what to expect, but it is the last show of the year at the Roadhouse (don't worry, the place is still pretty good even if the Constantines aren't playing there.)

we've got an amplifier

the extraordinarily hyped Constantines-Meligrove Band-Blood Meridian-Shotgun & Jaybird bill turned out to live up to expectations last night. i finally got the chance to see the Cons live and was amazed by the energy these gentlemen must be able to put into their shows night after night. the roadhouse was packed and energy seemed to be dripping off of everyone, with someone even telling me today how pleased they were to be cut and bruised following the show last night. i believe cheap draught was also a factor. and yes, that is joel and amelia makin' out.

initial post + Akron/Family w/ Julie Doiron and Shotgun & Jaybird tonight

sackville is getting bigger. too big to fit into the small town that it occupies. we knew this when sackville was suggested as a possible "new montreal" on last week's CBC Radio 3 podcast. therefore, it only seemed fitting that sackville, with its burgeoning music scene, should find its way onto the interweb. that is why this has been created, primarily as a resource for the denizens of sackville who happen to be interested in music, but also for others who happen to be interested in great music but don't live in sackville.

which brings me to this: George's Fabulous Roadhouse will be blessed with one of the more popular bands of the moment tonight, Mar. 24, 2006. the Akron/Family, out of New York, New York will be performing. rumour has it that the band has been known to play for up to and including two hours at some of its previous gigs, so the show starts early. a mixed set of altogether craziness fromJulie Doiron and Shotgun & Jaybird will begin at 10:00 and likely last for longer than anyone could possibly imagine. get there early to get a good seat or possibly that spot leaning against one of the pillars that everyone wants.

keep checking back.
